You’ve got to kiss a lot of frogs to meet a prince.

That’s the job and you’ve got to kiss ’em.

You can’t mail them a kiss.

If you operate as a solo proprietorship or partnership as opposed to a corporation, there are matters to address. In a full-time job you may be accustomed to income tax withholding from your employer, but if you operate as a solo proprietorship or a partnership, you will be responsible for filing at specific intervals throughout the year estimated tax payments to cover your income tax and self-employment tax, if your self-employment income is $500 or more. MLM distributors, in their capacity as independent contractors, will receive a Form 1099 statement of earnings at the close of the tax year from the MLM company. No withholdings will take place; however, because of the independent contractor status. Therefore, distributors should be careful to allocate sufficient funds for tax payments from their ongoing earnings so that they are not rudely surprised by the tax bill when the tax filing season arrives. (In addition, if you pay commissions to anyone in your downline in excess of $600 or sell consumer products for resale of $5,000 or more you will file a Form 1099-Misc. with the IRS as well as providing 1099 to the downline salesperson.)
